You can add just a few drops of essential oils to your vaporizer to create a wonderful aroma throughout your home. A simple room vaporizer consists of two parts, the bottom will hold a heat source and the top will hold water and your essential oils. When the unit is turned on, the water will heat up and add a fragrant aroma to the air.
You need to regularly top up the water in your vaporizer to ensure it does not completely evaporate and burn. The heat source may be a candle or open flame which can be dangerous if left unattended. This type of vaporizer should not be used around children without supervision, as the water can also become very hot and there is a risk of burns.
Other types of vaporizers use heat sources other than an open flame, such as electric heat. This type of unit plugs into an electrical outlet. There are also light bulb rings available where the user puts a few drops of essential oil into the ring while the light bulb is cool. When the light is turned on, the oil evaporates into the air as it is heated.
Clove oil is effective to combat fish moths in clothing closets, and it also has a pleasant odor. Just a few drops can be added to a cloth and then placed discreetly into a corner of the closet.
When vaporizing essential oils, research has shown there to be numerous therapeutic benefits.
When the essential oils are vaporized into the air, they are breathed into the lungs and absorbed into the body. They also affect the limbic system of the brain by using the sense of smell. Essential oils are used to ease respiratory and throat infections, calm and relax the body, relieve tension, and boost your mental and physical state.
Essential oils are derived from plant extracts and highly concentrated. They should never be ingested orally, as even a small amount can cause serious medical complications. Therefore, essential oils should be stored safely out of the reach of children. They should be kept in a cool, dark space to preserve their potency.
Children will benefit from the use of certain essential oils, such as lavender, chamomile roman, and tea tree oil. Lavender oil has a calm and refreshing scent, and is used to relieve nervousness, stress and headaches; fight allergies and hay fever; and as a sleep aid by calming fears, nightmares, hysteria and irritability. Chamomile Roman is used to calm and relax the nerves, and to treat irritability and impatience. Tea Tree oil is used to fight infection and boost the immune system.
When essential oils are combined with water and turned to a steamy vapor, they are effective in treating respiratory infections in the nose and sinuses caused by colds, coughs, and bronchitis. To treat most breathing problems, you can use cedarwood, eucalyptus and pine essential oils. Colds can be effectively treated with bay, black pepper, clove, ginger, myrrh, orange, pine, sandalwood, rosemary, tea tree oil, and thyme.
Bronchitis responds well to basil, benzoin, clove, frankincense, rosemary, and cypress. Sinus infections can be treated with lavender, peppermint, and marjoram. Those suffering from asthma should consult a medical practitioner.
When you vaporize your essential oils, you not only enjoy the aromatic scents in the air, but you also benefit from the natural healing elements of the oils.
