The World Health Organization defines health as, “a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being, and not merely the absence of disease” in their publications. This definition of health helps individuals understand that they must be well physically, emotionally and mentally.
Often times five different dimensions of health are included in the discussion of health. These five different dimensions are emotional or mental health, intellectual health, physical health, social health and spiritual health.
Although there are five different aspects to this health you must understand that they are fully integrated into one another. You want to make sure that you take the time to understand how they each affect one another.
As you are taking the time to understand how you are going to improve all aspects of this idea of wellness you should be sure that you start with the basics. When you are attempting to improve your health you can start with exercise.
There are many different types of exercise that you can participate in and you should know how each of them will affect your body. The positive effects of each of the types of exercise can greatly change your health level.
When you develop a sense of cardiovascular endurance through a higher intensity exercise for a long period of time you will be strengthening your cardiovascular systems. Your heart and your lungs will be strengthened and your major muscle groups will also be strengthened.
The cardiovascular endurance that you build up will be the most important aspect of your physical health. You have to make sure that you understand how you are going to go about building this endurance throughout all of your exercises.
When you develop cardiovascular endurance you should also make sure that you are working to develop muscle strength. There are many people that forget that they need to build muscle while they are trying to be happy.
You want to build your muscles through contracting them. Weight training is a great way to target each of your muscle groups so that you are able to strengthen these groups one at a time throughout your entire body.
While you are attempting to be well you should also make sure that you are pushing your body to be more flexible. There are many people that have a hard time understanding how they are going to improve their flexibility.
As you are pushing yourself you should make sure that you are under no false supposition. You have to make sure that you know that stretching can be uncomfortable and it can hurt while you are working to push your body to a new limit.
Your body composition is something that you want to be constantly aware of as well. Your lean body weight and your body weight that is composed of fat will be vastly different and you want to be sure that you understand these differences.
While you are taking the time to understand your body composition you may want to consult with a professional. A professional may have a machine that can tell you how your body is composed and help you know where you can improve.
When you are taking the time to improve your overall health you should not be discouraged. There are many improvements that will take a lot of time and you want to be sure that you work as hard as you can for as long as you need to.
The more that you understand about your goals and what you need to accomplish the easier it will be to understand how you are going to eventually reach the goals that can change your life.
