When a person loses one of his five senses, he is incomplete. Thankfully that today there is great improvements in technology that make solutions to the loss of auditory sense possible. The sense of hearing may be one of the easiest senses to restore. It was all due to the discovery and innovations on hearing aids.
Loss of hearing can be due to a number of causes. There are those who were unfortunate to be born with the impairment. This makes most of them mute also. They have not heard words so they could not also utter any word. There are people who lost this sense because of sickness and accidents. These people can speak but could no longer hear. Being advanced in age can also result to partial loss or hard of hearing. These are the senior citizens. This is a natural thing to happen yet the elderly should be helped to improve their level of hearing.
Hearing aid is a big solution to people with the impairment – a kind or miracle that makes them enjoy the different sounds surrounding them. This can restore their independence because they do not have to guess what other people say; they do not have to lip-read and most especially, they can resume their normal lives.
The auditory device is electronic in nature. What it does is enhancement of the sound waves to make them audible to the human ear. These solutions come in different styles or models. They can be classified as behind the ear or BTE, in the ear of ITE, in the ear canal of ITC and completely in the ear canal or CIC. Each of these can be analog or digital. The digital is an innovation brought about in the existing digital environment. This is good because the hearing aid has become refined thus delivering more functionality, clarity and precision. However, you should not be surprised to discover a big disparity in the price of analogs and digitals.
For the ear device to be the best, it should have great functionality. It makes the wearer hear sounds clearly, not the kinds that are garbled and noisy. A valued aid optimizes the comfort of the patient. What is very comfortable is hearing the sounds clearly thus making you completely understand what the talking person conveys. To have clarity, the background noise should not be very audible; it should amplify the sounds and words. The good types (but may be more expensive) have additional valuable features. These can be speech intensification, noise reduction, feedback elimination, artificial intelligence and adaptive directionality.
Do not discount the possibility for the aged people to also look for their own hearing devices. These elderly people used to be familiar with sounds. They were hearing them with clarity. But with advancing age, the sounds that gets in the ear become less and less audible. And this weakening capability to hear sounds can be very significant to many senior citizens. The result is their demand for the hearing aid – never mind if they are already old and have only few years to use them.
The hearing device is only great if it fits the individual requirement perfectly. It is this context that the ear specialist or audiologist has a very important role to do. This special doctor commonly influences and advises deaf people. Despite having selected your aid, you have to go to your audiologist first. This doctor does not only select the style for you; he recommends what is best fitted for your needs.
Thus, whenever you or any member of the family begins to discern the diminishing volume of hearing, you should take this as a necessary signal that you are bound to wear hearing aid.
