Many people, especially women in diet, think of carbohydrates as enemies. Carbohydrates are known to make people gain weight and they are hugely avoided by people who want to lose weight. Whether you are losing weight or not, you can never deny the fact that the body needs carbohydrates to produce energy. Your goal should not be centered in removing carbohydrates in your diet. Rather, you must focus on finding the right carbohydrates that will give you energy and at the same time help you keep a fit body. If you are going to take the wrong selection of carbohydrates, not only will you gain weight but you will also experience fatigue or persistent tiredness.

To understand better the relationship between carbohydrates and tiredness, let us first discuss what carbohydrates really are. Carbohydrate is one of the essential nutrients that the body needs for a lot of processes that are going on inside the body. Carbohydrates, when broken down, turn primarily into glucose. This form of sugar is the main source of energy of the human body. There are 2 kinds of carbohydrates depending on the source. Simple carbohydrates are carbohydrates that people can get from fruits while complex carbohydrates are those that people get from starchy food such as rice and potatoes.

The rates at which carbohydrates are broken down to simple sugar differ depending on the type. For instance, the carbohydrates from sweets such as cakes and chocolates, as well as carbonated drinks, are digested by the body at a relatively fats rate. This is the reason why when people eat sugar-rich food, they instantly feel energized. There is a letdown though. When you take in too much sugar, your body experiences a sugar rush that leads to sugar crash. This causes extreme tiredness and will greatly increase your cravings for sugar. Therefore, if you are going to turn to carbohydrates and sugar for energy, be sure to avoid sugar that is easily absorbed by the body such as honey and other sugar-rich food. You can eat fruits instead because they are broken down at a much slower rate so the body will get a relatively stable amount of energy without having sugar rush.

Avoiding simple sugar and sugar rush does not mean that you have to completely give up your chocolate bars. You can still have them but it is recommended to have them over a meal. This way, the body is not only digesting sugar but other things as well. According to studies, taking in simple sugar and protein together is the healthiest way to consume them. Proteins also trigger the production of neurotransmitters in the body that helps the brain in becoming more active and alert. Of course, it is still advisable to eat sugar-rich food in moderation and turning to healthy fruits and veggies instead.

Now that you know how tiredness and carbohydrates are related, you are now one step ahead in fighting tiredness. Eat the right carbohydrates for the body and enjoy an energized lifestyle.
