High blood pressure is one of the diseases that are very common nowadays. Most people in the old days develop this disease when they are around the age of 40 and up. But now, with the kind of diet and lifestyle we have acquired and develop in this fast-paced world, those who are at the young age of 20’s develop high blood pressure. There is no other reason for this rise in numbers. It all boils down to our food intake and lifestyle. We are so fond of eating fast foods that are rich in preservative, additives, salt and most of all, oil. These are the foods that our bodies are accustomed to. Aside from the food intake, we also tend to live sedentary lifestyles. We have become too lazy to move as everything has been developed for our convenience. If you think about it, our ancestors had to hunt for their food. Therefore, they had physical activity. They were able to burn all the calories they have gained when they ate. They also have stronger muscles and bones. Because of the balance of proper food intake and physical activity, they were able to keep most diseases as bay. But of course, medicine and technology were not developed in those days, and therefore they can die even from a simple disease. But that is beside the point. The point is, they were able to keep their blood pressure normal.

So how do you keep your blood pressure normal or lower your blood pressure the natural way? Once you are diagnosed to have high blood pressure, it is often difficult to keep it at bay. You will need to take maintenance so that your blood pressure will not sky rocket. But taking meds is not the only thing you should do. You should also watch your diet. Foods that are high in salt content should not be consumed. If it is possible, lower your salt intake as well as the salt in all that you eat. Oily foods should also be avoided. Unsaturated fats will contribute in increasing your blood pressure as these will contribute to increasing the number of your bad cholesterol.

Choose foods that are high in fiber such as bran and oats. Fiber helps in digestion and can also help in eliminating unwanted waste products in the body. Aside from whole grains, green leafy vegetables should also be incorporated in the diet. These vegetables like lettuce and cabbages are rich in fiber, minerals, vitamins and phytochemicals that reduce the plaque buildup in our blood vessels.

Tea, specifically green tea, is also good for people with hypertension. Aside from the relaxing effect of tea, it is also a good cleansing fluid because it cleanses your body by removing the toxins that can contribute to high blood pressure.

It does not mean that you should stop taking your meds when you are doing this. This should not be the case. Instead, it will help reduce the dosage of your medication and you will be able to keep your blood pressure normal and stable. You will also feel healthier and will feel better with this kind of lifestyle.
