The role of any dental practitioner is a complex one and it entails far more than one would think. Good oral health care will ensure that our teeth last as long as we do and the dental profession is there to educate patients about their oral health care. After carrying out a routine examination the practitioner has to decide if any further dental work is needed.
When a patient undergoes a routine check up then it may be necessary to investigate further before deciding which course of treatment to follow. The practitioner may need to take X-rays before any further work can be done. The patient should always be kept in the loop and be fully aware of any future plans. Good communication is key for the dentist and the patient.
Dental practitioners have to keep comprehensive patient records that are classed as highly confidential. Every check up the patient has is recorded on their notes and should the patient receive any other treatment then that is noted too. Dental records are important and handled with the utmost care.
All dental practices have to order supplies and the practice manager in charge is responsible for giving the go ahead for that ordering. A dental practice will have a budget that has to be adhered to and the stock of supplies should be checked on a regular basis. The practice manager will have to see sales representatives who are selling new dental equipment and decide if the goods are worth trialling.
The dental profession is like any other, it is always subject to development. As new and innovative dental techniques are introduced then it is crucial that the practitioners attend the training sessions to keep up to date with the latest technology. Dentistry is a far cry from what it once was.
Most dental practices have regular customers but they have to encourage new custom. In order to get new patients the dental team will have to market the practise. Dentists can advertise their practices in local business directories and local newspapers. A good and caring dentist will never be short of patients.
