Gout is a painful disease which is mainly known as the metabolic arthritis. The most frequently recorded disease in the medical history is caused mainly by the accumulation of the uric acid crystals in the joints, tendons and the surrounding tissues of the human body. In normal cases, the uric acid is cleared off the body through the body system but in case of kidney malfunction or excess uric acid the body cannot get rid of the excess uric acid. The uric acid then starts forming the uric acid crystals that starts to be deposited in the joints and the surround ding areas that causes the burning and intolerable pain. The main target area for the first gout attack is the big toes but other joint areas like the heels, the hip, the knees, the elbows, the fingers, the wrists and even the spine can be affected by the gout attack.

Apart from the problem of the intolerable pain the swollen skin, skin tenderness, redness and warmness are some other typical symptoms of the gout. Sometimes the uric acid crystals can grow large and that can create the skin sinuses and white chalky substance can be erupted from the skin. Low degree fever or nausea or vomiting can accompany the attack. Extreme pain can be so intolerable that sometimes even the slightest of touch can cause serious burning pain.

These are the reasons why gout is such a serious type of disease. Once diagnosed with the disease, the patients must be treated under an expert professional. The doctor will suggest the necessary medications and the healthy lifestyle changes with the right food diet for the patients.

When the disease is gout, the food habit is really an important concern. Because all the foods contain the uric acid that is the reason for the gout. However, certain foods contain high purine foods and certain foods contain low purine foods. Gout patients should always avoid the high purine foods and they must need to consume the low purine foods. Doctors will suggest the patients on the food diet. But some foods like the organ meats or the brain, kidney, liver, lamb, pork, beef, cauliflower, seafood, cod, stout, peas, dried beans, spinach contain high purine foods so the gout patients must avoid these. The low purine foods like the milk and the milk products, cereal, green vegetables, eggs can be taken on regular basis. Foods that contain the vitamin C should be included in the daily diet because they are capable of reducing the uric acid from the body. Beverages like the alcohol and the beer must be avoided by all means by the gout patients. However, drinking plenty of water is important for everyone including the gout patients.

When speaking about the special food diets about the gout patients, one must not forget the cherries. Cherries are known to be the best type of fruit that have the capacity to lower the uric acid level in the blood. Studies have proved that taking 30 to 40 cherries a day can successfully reduce the amount of uric acid from the human body.
