Most people with this kind of condition find themselves accustomed to the predicament. This is simply – bad news. Little by little its sufferers get used to the teases, the pranks, the teasing; and little by little they nurture a feeling of regret, low regard for the self, and depression. Excessive sweating in some areas are quite manageable, but in the case of underarm sweating, it is not the wetness that is the main enemy, but the odor that comes from bacterial products thriving on it.

Getting accustomed to it means no longer finding the means to fight it off. But there’s not reason to give up! The fundamental way to provide a solution for the condition is to understand it from its roots. What is excessive sweating? Or hyperhidrosis?

Sweating is the chief physiological temperature-regulating mechanism of the body, which functions at lowering body temperature through dissipation of heat. Sweating is normal when it is a reaction to a rise of temperature in the adjacent atmosphere. Excessive sweating, however, is sweating in abnormally large quantities even at normal conditions.

Called hyperhidrosis by medical professionals, excessive sweating is divided into two kinds: primary hyperhidrosis or secondary hyperhidrosis. Primary hyperhidrosis, simply the overactivity of the sweat glands due to excess nervous stimulation, is the type that is frequently passed down in families. It is easy to find solutions for primary hyperhidrosis, not involving any major treatment.

On the other hand, secondary hyperhidrosis is because of an underlying medical disorder. In some instances, the underlying circumstance is life-threatening and requires immediate medical attention. In cases such as this, it is essential to come up with a solution first to the underlying condition rather than worrying about the result which may include sweating. In the course of development, absence of the underlying condition possibly will mean eradication of the sweating problem. Some ailments causing hyperhidrosis are diabetes, hyperthyroidism and cardiovascular problems.

So how to deal with it? Consult a physician prior to anything. A doctor knows best. It would also be good to evaluate if the hyperhidrosis is either due to an underlying problem or not, or whether it is secondary in nature. Aside from that, a physician can also help you come up with medications on how to treat the condition. Frequently, doctors would prescribe beta blockers to inhibit overactivity. But this comes with risks, so it is better to consult first.

Antiperspirants are a mainstay in dealing with this condition. Choose antiperspirants with aluminum chloride since component acts as sweat blockers.

Surgery is not a wise option due to the multiple risks involved. One can suffice it though through homemade measures, such as applying lemon juice on the area, or slicing a potato and using it in cleaning the underarms prior to applying the antiperspirant deodorants. Being particular on hygiene will also help. A shower or two daily may help greatly in reducing the odor, since it eliminates the bacteria responsible for the odor. Avoid spicy foods and hot beverages such that it increases body temperature.
Keeping your body cool, calm and composed is the most practical way to stop sweating. So stop excessive underarm sweating now!
