Simple Steps On Preventing Teenage Smoking

There is a very real problem with teenage smoking in many households these days. If you know what to look for then you can help your child to prevent falling into this habit which may cause them health problems for life. It is a known fact that many habitual smokers began their habit as teenagers, so putting a stop to the habit at this point is critical.

Perhaps you already see that smoking is not good for you – there is no benefit to smoking. Do you know of the dangers that secondhand smoking can present to your close friends and family? For those who have children, this smoke will be a source of ear infections as well as breathing disorders. These are reason enough to stop while you still can.

There may come a day when you have reason to think that your child has a teenage smoking habit. Try smelling their clothes when they walk by after they come home from school to see if you can detect anything. Or you might want to try looking through their things to find out if they have any sort of smoking items like matches or ash trays.

If you are a parent and you smoke very often, then you can bet they will smoke as they grow up. In time if you smoke in front of your children, you will have taught them that this habit is alright to have. They will be taught indirectly that you have sanctioned the habit. This is a good reason to stop doing it as soon as you can.

When you are unsure how to speak to your child about these matters concerning teenage smoking, then you can always find resources online or in the bookstore to facilitate this discussion. When you look hard enough you can find helpful resources and this should make it easy for you to speak to them. Then you can try speaking to your teen when you have a better understanding of how to approach them.

To find other reasons to quit smoking, look no further than a close friend. Ask a friend who will be honest with you what they think your hair and your clothes smell like. If this friend does not smoke and is honest, then they will tell you right away that you smell a lot like an ash tray. Thinking about how you look and smell to others should be a reason for you to really consider stopping this addiction.

If you keep looking for reasons to quit smoking you will find plenty more, but you should focus on those which are most important to you. Then you should spend some time thinking about your priorities in life and who or what is most important. Are you more interested in smoking or in being there for family?
