In order to determine the best approach to remove acne scar depends on the type of scar and the extent of the scarring. Acne scarring is one of the most difficult aspects of this skin condition that an acne suffer has to face.
There are many emotional and psychological issues such as frustration, embarrassment, a sense of being disfigured are just some of the emotional and psychological issues that an acne sufferer has to deal with on a daily basis.
The following are 5 approaches to this problem that you may wish to take into consideration.
Option #1- Chemical Peeling
Chemical peeling might be the easiest approach to a very mild case of acne scarring. This procedure for removing scars takes about fifteen minutes to complete. Facial redness may persist for up to a few weeks. In the case
of deep scarring however another procedure might be recommended.
Option #2 – Dermabrasion
Dermabrasion is a technique that uses a machine with a diamond plated wheel to abrade (to wear down or rub away by means of creating friction) your skin thereby removing the scarred tissue. This method has been used for a long time. Funnily enough before dermatologists started using a diamond wheel they would use sand paper, so your faced was literally sanded down.
The time to complete the treatment is approximately 1 hour. Scabbing around the treated area should be anticipated and expect redness to last for a couple of weeks.
Option #3 Laser Resurfacing
Laser resurfacing treatment uses a carbon dioxide or erbium laser to remove the scarring from the affected area of skin. Treatment will vary anywhere from minutes to an hour depending on the size and amount of scars that need to be removed.
People with darker completion are advised not to have this treatment to remove acne scar because it may result in uneven skin coloration. A mild pinkish tone may be visible for a period even after the initial redness which may last for a few weeks has disappeared.
Option #4 “Punch” Method
The punch excision technique is a surgical procedure to remove the scarred area. One “punch” replacement method uses a tool to remove acne scar and a graft of skin taken from some other part of your body is used to cover the removal site.
Option #5 Subscision
Removing acne scars with a subscision technique requires that the scar be detached from the lower tissue causing blood to clot under your skin. The clot that has formed under the skin has the resulting effect of pushing the scar up to the surface of your skin.
The combination of these two procedures, namely dermabrasion or laser resurfacing and subscision offers you the best results to remove acne scar. In order to determine the best approach to resolve your skin scarring issue will depend on the type of scar and the extent of the scarring. It’s very important that you discuss your treatment options with your dermatologist before making a decision to remove acne scar.
