Protecting Yourself From Dangerous Dogs While Walking or ...

If you enjoy running, jogging, or walking outdoors, you are taking great strides to keep yourself healthy and in shape. If you are warmed up and properly stretched, you do not have to worry about injury.

However, that does not mean you are completely out of danger. Dogs can be very dangerous to joggers, if they are untrained, feeling threatened, or just mean.

Although you might think that it can never happen to you, there have been many instances in which people have been attacked, even fatally, by dogs. The dog may be one that you have never seen before or it may be one which you are familiar with.

No matter what the case is, there are several things that you should do in order to protect yourself during a dog attack. First of all, never run in the opposite direction if you feel threatened or afraid-they will always catch you.

If an aggressive dog were to approach you, there is a good chance that you might think that the most sensible thing that you can do is run from it. Even though the idea may sound like a good one, this does not mean that it is the right one.

You may as well be waving a red flag in front of an angry bull. No matter how much you may want to escape from a dog you feel may attack you, the best thing that you can do is just stand still and avoid running or making any quick or sudden movements.

Depending on the situation and the animal, making eye contact will only worsen the situation. When you stand still, there is a good chance that they will back off and leave you alone.

However, they may think that you are trying to be aggressive with them by staring directly into their eyes. This will only cause the animal to become infuriated, if he or she is not already.

If you feel threatened by an animal, the best thing you can do is to turn and walk away slowly, pretending like you cannot even see the animal. In most cases, they will back away, feeling that you are neutral.

However, if the canine decides to charge and attack, the most important thing you can do is to protect your face and head. Some of the worst injuries have resulted from humans being bitten in the face.

It is especially important to keep a dog away from your mouth and eyes. Stand up tall, pull your shirt up over your head or put your hands on your face to protect it from being bitten.

There is no doubt that dogs can sense fear. If your actions display any type of fear or discomfort, you can bet that they are going to pick up on it.

In order to prevent any beast from bullying you during a time when you are afraid of being attacked, the best thing that you can do is remain calm. Remember to always be alert when you are out running or walking.

While it is important to avoiding looking the animal directly in the eyes, it is also important for you to remain alert. You should know where they are at all times, in order to prevent yourself from being attacked without even realizing it.

From the moment that an angry or aggressive beast approaches you, it is important for you to be completely aware of your surroundings, their actions, and your own actions. You can never be too careful.

These are just some of the many things that can help protect you during an attack. You should never put yourself in a situation where you may become a victim.

If there are people around, you should yell for help when (but not until) the beast begins to attack. When you already know that there is an aggressive canine on the loose in your neighborhood, it is a good idea to consider carrying pepper spray.

If you are bit, it is important to seek the care of a medical professional immediately, in order to prevent an infection from occurring. If you have been the victim of an attack, make sure that you seek legal help immediately-you may have a case if the animal was not properly restrained.
