Plastic Surgery for Men: Popular Procedures

There may be still some people out there who believe that plastic surgery is only for women who want breast implants and face lifts. This is definitely a myth. Cosmetic procedures have been growing in popularity among men for years.

Each year the number of procedures performed on males rises by double digit percentages. The increases seem to be due to better awareness. More men are looking to the future and looking at their own health and physical appearance. They are simply becoming more conscious of the cosmetic surgery procedures available to males these days.

Another reason why men may be going under the knife in larger numbers may be because the business world today revolves around young, fresh looking faces and older males turn to plastic surgery to keep themselves competitive in a tough field. And we cannot underestimate the need for many men to keep up with the wives. If their wives get a nip-and-tuck to start looking much younger than they do, they may feel the pressure to keep up with them too.

No matter what the reasons, the fact is that more and more men are having cosmetic procedures performed each year. Some of the most common ones include eyelid lifts, brow lifts, liposuction, and nose surgery.

Eyelid surgery is also known as blepharoplasty and is common among male patients who want to get rid of puffy under eyes or sagging, droopy top eyelids. This procedure makes tiny little incisions in the eyelash line, in the natural crease of the upper lids or in both places. The skin is gently lifted and the extra skin is excised. It is then pulled tight and sutured back together.

The ironic thing is that this procedure will leave the eyes looking puffier than ever from all the post-surgery swelling. That will only last a little while though, and then you will experience dramatically younger looking eyes that make you appear more alert and well rested.

Brow lift plastic surgery has more to do with the forehead than the eyebrow, really. It is aimed at decreasing the look of sagging wrinkly forehead lines. Basically an incision is made in the hair line and the skin is loosened from the forehead muscles and tissues. It is then stretched tightly and the excess is removed. The skin is then repositioned and sewn back into place. After the healing process is complete, you will see a great improvement in the smoothness and youthfulness of your forehead skin.

Liposuction is a very useful procedure for generally healthy individuals that just have a few stubborn pockets of fat that are resistant to serious diet and exercise. During this cosmetic surgery, the surgeon will make tiny incisions in the areas where there are unwanted fat deposits and insert a small tube called a cannula. They use this tube to suck out the fatty tissues, leaving the body looking thinner and more sculpted.

Nose surgery or rhinoplasty is extremely common with men. This is because many males have very large noses or very large humps on their noses that they want to change. Rhinoplasty can easily eliminate these problems and provide them with smoother, more proportional looking noses.

So whether it’s reshaping their abs, nose, or forehead, men are major players in today’s modern plastic surgery world.
