Every time that you sit down on the weight bench and begin your daily workout you are not only building physical strength, but you are building mental strength. Mental strength is critical to achieving any fitness goal.

At some point in your workout, the workout should become painful and difficult. You may feel like you are moving through molasses.

This is great because it means you are becoming stronger. If you do not experience this pain or discomfort, you are not working out hard enough.

Pain is a significant part of building mental strength. As you work through the pain, you are making sure that you do not quit early and you are developing mental strength.

Mental strength has been referred to as mental toughness on occasion. Developing mental toughness also involved encountering unfamiliar and unexpected things on a regular basis.

Everyone has a comfort zone that includes things they are comfortable doing, people they are comfortable talking to, and places they are familiar with. Stepping outside of this comfort zone can be a terrifying experience for some people.

By overcoming this fear, these people will be able to become mentally stronger. As you work to become mentally strong, try to incorporate things you have never done before or try performing a task in a new way.

Many people do not ever become strong mentally because they are not willing to face and overcome this fear. Stepping outside of your comfort zone does not mean doing something stupid or dangerous.

It simply means trying something new that makes you feel slightly uncomfortable or fearful. Once you begin a difficult task, you may realize that you do not want to finish half way through.

When this point comes, you will need to remind yourself why you are doing what you are doing. You will need to remind yourself of your motivation to become physically and mentally strong.

Everyone has some form of motivation. The source of motivation could be a strong desire to lose weight, be a role model for a child, or prove that to yourself and others that you can do something.

The strength of this motivation is critical in the middle of a hard task. Whatever you select, focus on that.

Do not focus on how difficult the task it, the pain you feel, or why you should not be lifting weights. Otherwise, you may end up taking a nap on the weight bench instead of using it for what it was intended for.

As you focus on you source of motivation you constantly want to challenge yourself. Mental toughness is something that you develop over a long time.

Like most things, it cannot be developed in an instant. One of the best ways to develop mental toughness is to challenge yourself constantly.

Overcoming these challenges will allow you to practice being mental tough. Constantly challenging yourself means to always do things that are hard.

In addition, this task will be easier if you surround yourself with those you consider to be mentally tough. Peer pressure and social norms are very real forces that provoke change in people.

Who you choose to be with is who will determine which things to pressure you about and what unsaid pressures will be present. If you want to be pressured to consistently do things that are hard and develop mental toughness, surround yourself with people that are mentally tough.

Some people confuse mental toughness with being prideful. The two things are completely different.

Mental toughness involves stress, anxiety and pain. Meanwhile, pride involves having an inflated ego.

Developing mental toughness is critical to successfully completing a workout session every day. Many people struggle with the ability to sit down on a weight bench and lift weight or simply go running every day.

This is because they have yet to struggle through the pain to develop mental toughness and the discipline necessary to keep it up. However, all great athletes began that way.

It is not inherently easy to continuously exercise daily for anyone. The mental toughness and discipline has to be developed through practice.

Oddly enough, this practice comes through exercising every day. However, as you exercise every day, you will become mentally stronger and sitting down on the weight bench every day will become easier and easier.

The benefits of becoming physically fit and mentally strong are endless. The changes will be seen in every aspect of your work, at school, and in social situations.
