There are many different things that are considered to mar beauty. One of these things is moles.
Beauty is one of the things that many women in the United States seek after. There are many things that afflict the body that are not seen as beautiful.
Some of these things are moles, freckles, and skin tags. These things are all different forms of skin lesions and they are actually quite common.
While most of them are non-cancerous and do not pose any other kind of threat, they are viewed in American culture as a mar on beauty. Moles are growths that occur on the skin and they are usually brown or black in color.
These things can develop anywhere on the outside of the body and they may develop in groups or by themselves. Most of these growths develop in early childhood, but they can develop in the first 30 years of life as well.
Even though most people do not know this, it is actually quite common to have developed somewhere between ten and forty moles by the time you have grown to become an adult. Throughout the rest of your life, the moles that you have developed may change slowly.
If they change, they will usually become slightly raised or alter colors, becoming darker or more pronounced. Often hairs will grow out of them as well.
However, it is not uncommon for some of these growths to stay the same or even for them to disappear over time. These growths develop when a group of skin cells decide to grow in a cluster instead of spreading out like normal.
Those that grow in clusters are known as melanocytes. They naturally make the pigment that gives color to your skin.
This is part of why moles will often have a darker color after they have been exposed to the sun, during the teenage years, and throughout pregnancy. There are many different types of moles.
Congenital nevi are those that are present at birth. Every one in 100 people will have congenital nevi and they are more likely to develop into melanoma or cancer than moles that develop later in life.
However, if a mole or freckle grows to have a diameter of more than seven mm in size or features any other potential signs of melanoma, you should definitely have it checked out. The second kind is dysplastic nevi and they are identified by their large size.
Dysplastic nevi are often bigger than a pencil eraser and they often have odd shapes. They feature uneven coloring with darker centers and lighter edges.
Those who develop this kind of mole have a higher chance of developing melanoma simply because they are prone to having over 100 moles on their body. Melanoma is one type of skin cancer.
Any changes in dysplastic nevi should definitely be checked out by a doctor to ensure that you are not at risk for melanoma. Fortunately, most of these growths are not cancerous and do not pose a threat to you.
The ones that you should be most concerned about are those that look different than others or which appear after the age of 20. Some of the changes that may occur include in color, height, size, shape, and so forth.
It is best to visit a dermatologist to have these things inspected because a dermatologist is a specialist in skin issues and will have had a lot of experience in dealing with these things. You should especially have them checked out by a doctor if they bleed, ooze, itch, become scaly, are tender, or are painful.
If the mole is in an area where you cannot see it, you may want to have someone else look at it to tell you if it has any of these symptoms. However, the ones that you will be most at risk for are those that are exposed to the sun.
For example, those that are found on your hands, arms, chest, neck, face, and ears. Be sure to keep a special eye on these things. However, if you do not see any change over time, you do not need to worry about them even though many women choose to have them burned off simply because they believe that they mar their beauty.
Other things you should look for include asymmetry, a border around the mole that is ragged or blurred, uneven color throughout, large diameter, and change. These things all indicate that the mole may becoming cancerous and you will need to have it checked out in order to ensure your safety and to receive the proper treatment if necessary.
