As we age many of us see our youth slipping away from us and feel that our lives are also sliding away. We look at those tell-tale wrinkles and realize we cannot do the things we used to do. Depression creeps in and adds to our woes, leaving us in a world of unhappiness.

Now once we realize that we are getting old there is no need to have this negative attitude because there are a lot of things we can do to help us find the Fountain of Youth and take back our lives. Of course we cannot completely reverse the signs of aging because there is no such thing as the Fountain of Youth in reality. But we can do a lot to help ourselves to live a lifestyle that is both enjoyable and fulfilling and make our own version of the Fountain of Youth.

One of the biggest problems of aging is the fact that we find ourselves physically deteriorating. This stops us from being as active as we used to be and interferes with our lifestyle. Of course you can expect to slow up a bit and many of us suffer from arthritis and other joint problems, but this does not have to stop you from enjoying life to the full.

To alleviate and sometimes even rid yourself of physical ailments it is good to keep fit. Exercise and nutrition are essential keys to success. Even if you have some physical problems passive exercise can help you to overcome and manage them better. Here are a few passive forms of exercise that can be taken even if you are not 100%.

Walking:

Walking is one of the best ways to exercise at any age. You should walk fairly briskly to achieve your end goal, but you can be the judge of how much or how little you can do. The fun part of walking is that you can actually do this form of exercise anywhere. To see how much exercise you are really getting you can use a pedometer. This is a fun little device that can count your steps and record the distance you have gone. Many pedometers also record the calories you have burned and memorize data from past exercises.

Swimming: swimming is a good passive exercise. Again you can do as much or as little as you wish. The laps in a swimming pool will tell you how far you have gone. You can also use a lap timer to make it more fun and challenging. Swimming is a good form of exercise as the water will take the weight off any limb that is not working and allow you to move it better. This is why many physiotherapists recommend swimming to improve mobility in a joint.

Gardening: gardening is a fun hobby and can be done at any age. of course you can do as much or as little as you want. You can make a small garden or a bigger one depending on how much you can handle. There is nothing like your home grown vegetables or looking at flowers that you have nurtured from seed.

These are just a few things you can do to help you stay in shape. You will find the Fountain of Youth by looking inside yourself and keeping yourself in good condition. No doubt you cannot completely banish old age but you can do a lot to keep yourself from looking and feeling old.
