Toothache occurs when bacteria builds up around the teeth. The bacteria feed on the sugar left by food particles in the mouth. Over time, a plaque appears on teeth, and cavity is certainly to follow. The plaque is like a breeding ground for bacteria, which chew their way to the pulp part of the tooth, which hold the nerve endings. When the cavity has dug through the enamel and the dentin, pain will be felt as the nerves in the pulp get attacked.

Home remedies for toothache

Here are some easy remedies to alleviate the pain caused by toothache. These can be used if you can’t immediately go to your dentist.

• Clean the mouth with lukewarm water especially around the affected tooth. Floss too so you can remove all the food particles that may still present.

• You can also try to gargle with water that has been stirred in with some salt.

• When you have toothache, keep away from hot or cold drinks because these will just aggravate the sensitive tooth

• Use clove oil, a natural painkiller with antibacterial components. Mix 2 to 3 drops of the clove oil with some olive oil. Dab cotton unto this solution and place on the aching tooth. If the affected tooth is all the way at the back of the mouth, just bite on the wet cotton.

• A similar effect could be achieved from a ginger. Just let the aching tooth bite gently on the ginger.

• Ice compress can also help ease the pain since it will numb the nerves. Just place the ice in a cloth so you don’t apply the ice directly on you cheek skin.

• Charcoal compress is another option. Just buy and activated charcoal from the nearest drugstore or natural health shop. Mix about 2 teaspoons of the powder with just the right amount of water so that you get the consistency of a paste. Put some f this paste in a piece of gauze and bite down on it/
