Panic attacks are not fun. Of course, if you went shopping and you end up suddenly panicking and hyperventilating without any particular reason, you may not know what to do. In fact, this may lead you to shy away from places and events as you may fear having another attack or you may fear of dying, until the cycle goes on.
Of course, it can affect your social life and in fact, constant panic attacks have been determined as a medical condition that needs attention. If you are experiencing this sudden surge of anxiety and panic, you may want to be well-informed on how to deal with panic attacks so you can manage this situation.
1. Learn about this disorder. One of the best weapons you can have for any diseases or disorders or health problems is to be equipped with the right information. Of course, if you have enough knowledge on what panic attack is all about, you will at least know how to deal with it or manage its symptoms.
2. Facing your fear. If you are frequently experiencing panic attacks, you may find yourself avoiding instances and events or people that you think may cause you to feel anxiety and panic. However, experts say that the more you avoid these things, the more it can worsen the situation. Keep in mind that panic attacks can strike anywhere and anxiety may develop even with things that should not be a cause of worry, thus if you avoid them, you may be withdrawing a lot from society as well and that may not be good for you. Learn to face your fear and condition your mind. Panic is just sometimes created by your mind and you can actually defeat it.
3. Therapies. Another effective way on how to deal with panic attacks is to get yourself into therapies such as the cognitive behavioral therapy. Therapies such as these will help you deal with your thoughts and help you face your fears as well until it will all be gone.
4. Learn relaxation techniques. Panic attacks often spring from anxiety and worries and you can help stop putting yourself into panic by learning relaxation techniques such as deep breathing, meditation, yoga, guided imagery and many others.
5. Avoid caffeine, alcohol and illegal drugs. These are not just roots of bad health habits, they also can worsen panic attacks as they may give you side effects that are similar to having a panic attack.
6. Have a support group. Disorders like anxiety and panic attacks can be overcome successfully and like any other mental disorders, you can actually overcome this with the help of people who are also into the same condition as you are. The thought that you are not alone with this disorder and that you have people around you who understand and support you can in fact be a big factor on how to deal with panic attacks.
Of course, maintaining a healthy body and a healthy lifestyle also counts if you want to keep your mental health healthy as well, thus find ways to live with a healthy lifestyle.
