Everyone is familiar with health and safety signs but sometimes if they remain in the same place, people can take them for granted. This is not to imply that people do not care for health and safety, but it is very easy to overlook something that you see every day of your working life. A great thing about the plethora of health and safety signs available is that many do not feature any writing but describe the danger through images. This improves the likelihood of people taking in the message as wordy warning signs can sometimes be easily overlooked. Depending on the information that needs to be passed on, there may be a requirement to use words, but the simpler the better is a good motto when considering safety signs. If you need people to be aware of the potential dangers, make sure that the message is delivered to them as simply and efficiently as possible.
With guidelines and legislations changing all the time, it is important to ensure that any health and safety signs on display are up to date.
Providing incorrect or outdated information may leave a company liable if something changes. With the speed of law changes, it can be a bit difficult to stay on top of these things but this is something a personnel department of a company should try to keep track of. Any changes should be brought to the attention of the purchasing department in case there is a need to update the signs on display.
No matter what line of business you are in, there is a need to provide a level of safety and responsibility for your workforce. This should be the minimum that any employer tries to do and health and safety signs are a great way of providing information and details to the people who need it the most. There has to be a level of trust placed on staff members that they will adhere to the message provided by the signs but once the firm has passed on the information, there is a shared responsibility.
