Healing a Pulled Muscle in the Back

Injuring your back can cause some excruciating pain. When you injure your back you want to make sure that you understand not only how you will be able to heal yourself properly but how you can avoid another back injury.

First, you want to make sure that you are taking the time to be sure that what you are doing will actually help. If you are in an extreme amount of pain you should be sure that you see a doctor or a chiropractor as soon as you possibly can.

A doctor can tell you what you need to do to make your back better. When you visit a chiropractor you may be able to have your back adjusted so that you are able to feel better as soon as possible.

Second, when you start to feel that your back is injured but the pain is not enough to go see a doctor you want to make sure that you start by controlling the swelling. When you are controlling the swelling you will minimize future pain.

You want to make sure that you understand that you can lay on an ice pack to ice your back. You should not try to hold an ice pack against your back, the awkward positioning of your arms can make your back pain even worse.

Make sure that you do not leave the ice on your body for more than thirty minutes. When you are icing you should also make sure that you are heating your back for thirty minutes after the ice has been on your back.

Going back and forth between ice and heat will ensure that you are able to control the swelling without damaging your nerves. Make sure that you take time out of your daily routine to ice and heat your back for at least an hour and a half.

Third, you should try your hardest to soak in a bath tub. When you are filling up the bath tub try to make it as hot as you can stand it and sprinkle some Epsom salt into the bath to ensure that your muscles will be able to relax as much as they can.

While you are soaking in the bath tub, stay as long as you can or until the water is not warm anymore. When you do not have time for the bath you can also stand in a really hot shower and let the water sit against your back.

The heat from the water should help your muscles to relax in your back. When your muscles are relaxing in your back you may be able to start to feel some relief from the constant pain of your muscles being tense.

Fourth, when you are experiencing back pain, you want to make sure that you understand how important it is to have good posture. Make sure that you are protecting your back with the good posture.

Anytime that you sit down in your home try to keep a heating pad near. You can never heat your back too often and you want to make sure that the muscles in your back are as warm as they can be to help them relax.

Fifth, there are a lot of pain-relieving creams that you can start rubbing into your back. You want to make sure that you understand that these will not give you permanent relief and that you should not depend on them for your cure.

If you cannot reach the area of your back that hurts, have someone else rub the cream on. This will ensure that you are not going to tweak your back even more when you are trying to put this pain-relieving cream on.

Throughout the time that your back hurts you need to make sure that you understand that your back needs rest. Taking it easy is important and you have to be sure that you understand how you are going to take it easy.

While you are learning how you are going to take it easy, be wise about the way that you are moving. Do not twist your back into unusual positions and make sure that you baby your back throughout the day.

Finally, once you feel better you should make sure that you are participating in stretching and strengthening exercises. These exercises can help you to be sure that you are not going to run into as many back problems in the future.
