Most people make a laughingstock out of people who are suffering from hair loss. But this condition is far from being funny. Society dictates that being bald is an embarrassing condition and having a full head of hair depicts beauty. The problems brought about by hair loss could be more than physical. Some patients who are afflicted with this condition carry psychological scars.
The Society’s Role
Countless men and women suffer from ridicules hurled at them by shallow-minded people. Constant humiliation decreases one’s feelings of worthiness and self-esteem. Even a patient’s self-confidence is affected. Most bald people now don’t enjoy their lives all because of the unending taunting.
Hair loss, had it been handled by a mature society, should be nothing but mere condition that occurs to some people. The stigma attached to this condition should be non-existent. In fact, it is awful to think that modern man thinks of himself as educated and civilized when there are still silent sufferers who have to endure mockery. This public mindset could be attributed to the advertisements that constantly bombard countless TVs and other forms of media. Long hair, hair with curls, even short hair is stylish yet a bald man is unappealing and unfashionable.
People who lose their hair can never be blamed for the way they feel. It’s the people around them and the so-called norms that should be put at fault.
Dealing with the Psychological Wounds
There are many ways to deal with this psychological battle caused by hair loss. Some men are now considered to be cool or trendy if they sport a shaven head. Some actors have, at least at one point in their careers, sported the bald look. One other good way to deal with hair loss is to face it and treat what’s causing it. There are now many available products in the market that are meant to treat alopecia. These hair care products could come in the form of shampoos, conditioners, hair growth solution, even oral medicines. If you’re the more conservative type, there are also natural substances that have been proven to treat the loss of hair.
Being bald can be highly stressful but it is advisable to just let go of the stress as it can cause further hair loss. For patients who would want an immediate result, there are hair transplants and restorations that can be performed. Studies have proven that those who have undergone such transplants have improved on the way they look at themselves after several sessions.
It’s Your Decision
Sure, there are a lot of ways to face the pains of hair loss but it is always up to the patient to decide on how to deal with the problem on hand. Those who are confident in sporting the bald look might as well stick with it. While most of the other patients who would want to live as normal as possible with their crowning glories should look for the treatment that works best for them. It may take time to get back what was lost (if at all) but while in the process of treating the condition, it is best to enjoy life and see the world at a different perspective. After all, life isn’t all about the physical aspect alone.
