Getting Past the New Gym Jitters

If you have just signed up for a gym and you are intimidated by all of the different machines that are available to you, do not get discouraged. Although there are a lot of different options available to you, you should not be overwhelmed.

Many of the machines are not very difficult to understand, they just require you stepping on and being willing to figure them out. Once you have figured out the machines, you will be able to continue to use them for a long time.

When you first step on an elliptical you should make sure that you attach the safety mechanism. For many different machines the safety mechanism is a clip that you can attach to your shirt to ensure that you are on the machine.

If the clip detaches from the machine, the machine will automatically stop. Although a lot of people feel that they do not need the safety mechanism, it is something that could be a necessity if you fall or trip off of the machine.

After attaching the safety clip you should choose a workout program that is conducive with your goals. There are many different programs that are on the machine to give you the most out of your exercise time on the elliptical.

One of the most popular workout settings on the machine is the fat burner. This is the setting that will keep your heart rate in your target heart rate zone for long periods of time and then give you some cool down time before revving your heart up again.

This setting may be difficult if you are just beginning on the elliptical. So, when the option comes up to select the level at which you are going to complete your workout you should choose a lower end level.

After you have chosen and level and you have chosen a program on the machine you will be asked to enter in your age and your weight. Keep in mind that you are entering this into a machine that is not judgmental and does not care.

With this in mind, you have to make sure that you are honest with the machine. If you are not honest with the machine it may give you a workout plan that is impossible for you to finish or that is far to easy for you to finish.

When your workout is too easy, you will be wasting your time on the machine. If the workout is too hard it will be easy to become discouraged and throw in the towel long before your body receives any benefit.

Basically, the machine asks these questions so that it can match up your stats with a workout that is beneficial for your body. Take the time to make sure you enter in the correct information so you can maximize your time on the elliptical.

Next, the machine will ask you to enter in the length of time that you wish to be on the elliptical. You should make sure that you are on the machine for at least a half of an hour and that you do not push yourself to stay on for too long.

After you have entered in all of this information your workout will begin. You will have to pull and push your legs throughout the workout to ensure that the elliptical is continually moving so that the screen stays activated.

If you start to feel that you are pushing yourself too hard lower the level or the resistance on the machine. When you just stop moving the pedals of the machine the screen will deactivate and you will lose all of the information about what you have completed.

Some people work out on the machine for a specific amount of time while other people work to go a certain distance. No matter what you are working for, make sure you do not allow yourself to step off the machine until you are done.

When you have this kind of intensity and drive on the elliptical you can get a great workout. If you are not getting a great workout on the machine you simply have to change something about the way you are working out.

No matter what machine you choose to use in the gym, make sure you are doing all you can to make your workout intense. Through intensity you will begin to see the results that you desire to see.
