Many individuals do not start caring about their health until they run into some sort of problems that shocks them in such a way that they realize they are not invincible. Unfortunately, when that health scare happens, your well being is threatened and your life expectancy statistically drops.

For instance, if you had kidney failure but received a perfectly healthy transplant you may think you will live like any other human being with two functioning kidneys. Unfortunately, this is not the case and your life expectancy is greatly reduced because of the damage that was already done.

By that time it is too late and there is nothing you can do to change it except pray for a miracle. In many cases, the kidney problems are a result of poor lifestyle choices made over span of time.

On the other hand, there are many cases of kidney failure that are results of hereditary or some kind of genetic anomaly. These simply cannot be avoided, but there are ways to soften the blow.

If you know that there are some health conditions that run in your family, discuss them with your doctor so that you can be educated on lifestyle choices and preventative measures to avoid severe problem. With the example of kidney failure; if the condition runs in your family then you can monitor your sodium intake and practice other dietary habits to promote the wellness of that organ.

Understanding your body and what it can and cannot do is vital to your wellness. Sometimes it can be hard to determine what is best for you specifically since every person has different needs in regard to their health.

You should make sure that you go in for regular check-ups so that your health is monitored and documented. They may seem annoying, but physical exams are very important if you want to catch problems before they become severe or life threatening.

If you notice anything different about your body that raises a concern in any way, do not be afraid to discuss it with your general physician. Nothing is too gross or weird for a doctor, and their job is to know about things and give you answers.

In most cases you have to go through a general physician to see a specialist anyways, so making sure you check in regularly with your physician will also make sure your get to a specialist faster if the need arises. There are also certain tests that you need to get regularly once you get to a certain age and start performing certain activities.

Being aware and up-to-date on your physical wellness is one of the most important factors in making sure that you live a full life. You not only need to make sure you take care of serious conditions like kidney failure, but you also need to address things like the cold or flu.

If you are sick more than a few days, you should schedule an appointment with your general physician to receive some antibiotics and make sure that there is not some kind of underlying problem present. Your weight is also a huge factor when it comes to your health.

The number alone is not what matters, but the composition of your body does. The muscle to fat ratio plays a big role in your health; and if there is significantly more fat than muscle you could have some internal problems.

This could make it harder to be physically active which could affect your cardiovascular, nervous, and digestive systems. A significant amount of fat around the organs could also impair their ability to function.

Fatty cells in the blood stream could also cause a slower blood flow rate and/or clotting. These problems could lead to an irregular heart beat and a heart attack.

A high fat content in the body could also lead to Type I diabetes, which affects the insulin levels in your bloodstream. Each of these is a very severe problem that stemmed from little a problem that was repeated day after day.

What you eat is a decision that has to be made several times a day, every day. If you are not careful and monitor your habits, they have the power to take over and completely ruin your healthy faster than you thought possible.
