Exploring Laser Hair Removal

One of the most popular and demanded cosmetic operations is laser hair removal. This procedure removes hair through the use of light.

A tiny, gentle beam of light is usually passed through the skin to the hair follicle. The hair absorbs the light and the energy from the laser is transformed to heat which disables the hair follicle.

Electrolysis is similar to laser hair removal and all too often these two treatments are grouped together as the same thing. However, electrolysis is tedious, painful, and time consuming.

Electrolysis destroys each piece of hair one follicle at a time. This can result in years of treatment to complete.

However, laser hair removal procedures can treat hundreds of hair follicles at the same time. This speeds the process up by a lot.

Due to new technology anyone can receive effective treatment. Still, light skinned individuals usually receive the best results.

Most laser hair removal pieces of equipment require that the hair is darker than the skin around the hair. As a result, white skin with dark hair produces the best results.

Dark, coarse hair usually contains melanin, which is a pigment that the laser light is especially attracted to. This is another reason light individuals with dark hair usually receive the best results in fewer sessions.

Light colors such as blonde and red hair are comparatively very difficult to treat. People with these colors of hair generally need to receive more sessions of treatment to obtain the desired results.

It is also good to know that beta-carotene produces a yellow or orange tint in the skin that attracts the laser and interferes with the procedure. Beta-carotene is more commonly known as vitamin A.

Vitamin A is found in carrots, squash, and a variety of other vegetables. If these things are a large part of your diet, you will need to alter your diet at least several weeks before treatment.

The amount of time a laser hair removal treatment takes depends on a variety of factors including the person, skin tone, hair color, and coarseness of hair. In generally a back treatment will take one and half to three hours to treat, a shoulder treatment will take ten to twenty minutes to treat, underarms will take one to two minutes to treat, a bikini line will take eight to ten minutes to treat, the upper lip will take less than a minute, the chin will take two to three minutes and the legs will take one and half to three hours to treat.

However, each area will require anywhere from at least two or three treatments up to five to eight treatments to achieve the desired results. Repeated treatments are necessary because hair grows in cycles.

Anagen is the technical term for the active stage of the hair when it is growing. Laser hair treatment works best when the hair is treated during the anagen phase.

Repeated treatments are necessary because not all of the hair will be in the anagen phase when you go in for the first treatment. Generally, the second or third treatment will catch all of the hair.

This procedure has very little risk of side effects associated with it. There is not residual left on the skin from the light.

After treatment the skin may turn slightly pink or red. However, this often disappears after a few minutes.

In a few rare cases it may take a couple of days to disappear, but the use of cold packs can shorten the amount of time it takes to recover from the procedure. The level of pain associated with laser hair removal varies depending on the sensitivity of the person being treated.

Some people feel a small sting on the skin while others say that the pain is as intense as a pinch. It may take some time to see the results of the treatment.

After the first treatment, the hair will fall out over the next two months. Following treatments will also take some time to see the results.

Laser hair removal can be fairly expensive, but the exact price depends on the size of the area being treated and the type of area being treated. A basis treatment will generally cost somewhere around $500.

Unfortunately, the success of this procedure cannot be guaranteed. This procedure does work for the majority of the population, but there are a few exceptions.

However, this procedure can be worth the time and effort you will save in the future by relieving you from the need to shave.
