You can do the lunge by standing with the feet slightly apart and then stepping one foot forward before lowering your whole body slowly. Your knees should bend as your body moves downward. Stop when your thigh in the front leg is parallel to the floor. You can then return to your first position and repeat the exercise up to 10 times. Dumbbell lunges are done the same but with dumbbells in both hands. Make sure too that you are doing this exercise correctly as improper execution can also lead to knee injury.

The simple step-up

Another very simple exercise you can do for your butt and your thighs is the step-up exercise. You can do it on the stairs at home but always start with the lowest step. It is done by simply stepping up and down on one step. You can also add weights to your step-ups to make it more intense.
