Exercising and eating healthy are sure ways to lose weight and develop the body you want. Many people recognize that you have to eat properly after you exercise, but they do not realize that eating healthy right before they exercise is just as, if not more important, than eating correctly after the run.

Your body will burn a lot of calories through exercising. It is important to give you body to something to run on while you exercise, and then refuel it afterward.

The body will not be able to run on no fuel. If you try to exercise with not energy, it will have a negative impact on your body and exercising will not be fun.

As a result, exercising will not be fun and you will quickly lose your motivation to do it. Likewise, if you are energized, you will feel motivated to set higher goals and reach for them.

One reason that you will want to make sure that you eat before you exercise is to prevent developing low blood sugar. Low blood sugar can result in light-headedness throughout your workout.

This is not only discouraging, but unsafe. You could seriously hurt yourself if you are using heavy weights or performing activities requiring balance and agility and you faint or become dizzy and fall.

When you feel energized and ready to exercise, you will be able to maximize the time that you spend exercising as well. Maximizing your exercise time will also result in maximized weight loss and maximized muscle and endurance gain.

Many people do not realize that they could lose muscle mass by exercising without the proper nutrients. By eating before you exercise, you will minimize the amount of muscle that you will burn through exercising.

The meal you eat before you work out should be low fat and easily digestible. Foods that are harder to digest may take too long to process and the stress of digesting and working out may be too much for your body.

This state of being may result in cramps throughout your workout. In addition to being low fat, the pre-workout meal should contain healthy carbohydrates. This is not permission to eat all of the sweets and white bread that you want.

Sugar gives you an initial energy high, but that energy is quickly lost. This change in energy levels will leave you burned out in the middle of your workout routine.

The carbohydrates included in your diet should contain a lot of starches and fruits, with a touch of protein. It is also very important to make sure you are properly hydrated.

One example of an ideal meal to eat before working out would be yogurt with berries and other fresh fruits. Other examples of ideal foods to try include bran cereal, a protein bar, a smoothie, egg white omelets with whole wheat bread, and bananas.

You do not want this meal to be too heavy or it will hold you back from properly exercising to your full ability, but not eating can do the same thing. Light meals are easily digestible.

Digestible foods are generally low fat. Low fat foods typically will not slow down the digestion process. A combination of protein and carbohydrates of about one to two is the goal for a pre-workout meal.

The protein will help you muscles continue working throughout the workout, but the carbohydrates will give the rest of the body the energy that it needs. As previously states, these carbohydrates should be complex, not simple sugars.

Your healthy, low fat meal should be eaten about thirty to fifty minutes before exercising. As a result, the food you ate will have digested before you exercise.

The general rule for the size of your pre-workout meal is that it should be no more than 150 to 200 calories. This number varies according to size.

For example, a petite woman should lean towards the 150 calories while a muscle mountain kind of athlete will need to lean towards the 200 calorie side, or higher.

While it is very important to eat, it is also very important to not eat too much. This will also slow down how fast you digest your meal.

Remember that it is also very important to stay properly hydrated while exercising. The body is mostly made up of water and you lose water through sweating to cool your body off.

As you exercise and eat and drink correctly, you will feel energized as you exercise.
