Colchicum is a flowering planet and it can effectively acts as a remedy for two critical medical conditions. These are Gout and the Mediterranean fever. Gout is known as the metabolic arthritis and the Mediterranean fever is a sort of painful and infectious disease. In this article we will discuss about the painful inflammation of the gout and how Colchicum can help in managing the pain of the gout.

Gout is caused by the accumulation of the uric acid. The uric acid starts to form the uric acid crystals and they begin to be deposited in the joints, tendons and the tissues causing the gout attack. The acute pain, sensitive skin, redness, warmness are the common gout symptoms. Sometimes the skin becomes so sensitive that even the slightest of touch can cause acute intolerable pain.

The active compound that is found in the Colchicum is colchicine. Colchicine is a type of prescription drug for treating the gout. It can effective manage the acute pain of the gout. Colchicine also helps in lessening the frequency of the gout attack.

As earlier said Colchicum is a flowering plant. The flower of the tubers has medicinal benefits. It is a sort of poisonous plant and that is the reason why it has very limited uses. Using the medicine for a long time can be harmful. Only the recommended doses of the Colchicum can be used for treating the gout. It should be used for a short period of time too. Using the medicine for a long time can lead to the damage of the kidney and liver, loss of hair, muscle disease, inflamed nerves or the damage of the bone marrow. Colchicum has no contraindications with other types of medicines but gout patients should not take the herbal teas when they are using Colchicum.

But patients should be careful about using the medicine. If the patient is pregnant or breastfeeding then she should not take the medicine even if she is seriously suffering from the gout attack. Colchicum is effective for treating the gout but it is highly detrimental to the development of the baby because it has the properties restricts the cell division.

For treating the gout attack the Colchicine can be taken orally. For the first time the patient can take the dose of 1 mg and then he can take yet another dose of half a milligram to 1.5 mg. the dose can be repeated in one or two hours until the pain is relieved. But the patient must keep in mind that the doses must not exceed 8 milligrams a day. That can be dangerous for the patients. The patients should wait for 3 more days or so after taking the medicine doses of a day. Doses exceeding the 5 grams are fatal to any adults if you are taking the seeds of the Colchicum. Dose of a gram to 1 ½ grams can kill a child. 200 milligrams of Colchicine is fatal to any people.

Colchicum toxicity will be shown in 3 to 6 hours of ingestion. At the very first the patient may feel the mouth is burning. Then he will feel thirsty. After twelve to fourteen hours they patient may start vomiting and he may experience the diarrhea, stomach pain, spasms in the bladder and blood in the urine. The patient may slowly lead to the condition of paralysis. Exhaustion, asphyxiation, collapse and then finally death can become the ultimate fate.

These are the reasons why a patient of gout should never try to use Colchicum except the except the experts doctor’s prescription and suggestion. The patients should be careful about using the medicine.
