Burning Calories Was Never Easier

When making an important decision between two seemingly equal choices, the deciding factor is often the most important thing that the person making the decision hopes to get out of the choice. For example, the choice between the treadmill and elliptical is often decided by which one will help burn more calories.

As exercising takes time and energy, two of our most valuable resources, it is completely understandable that the deciding factor is which one will give us the best results. It is important to realize that the number of calories you burn during a workout will depend on your weight.

For example, a 150 pound woman will burn a little less than 400 calories while a 180 pound man will burn about 500 calories on the same machine for the same length of time.

Most elliptical selling companies claim that a person can burn about 800 calories per hour on the elliptical. However, there are several additional factors to weight and gender that will affect how much you will burn during a workout.

The first is the duration of your workout. To reap the benefits of working out, it is generally recommended that you work out for 30 minutes.

Of course the longer you work out, the more calories you will burn. Set a goal for yourself and work up to that goal.

The second thing that will affect how much you burn will be whether or not you train in intervals. This is a recommended type of training because it can help prevent injuries.

Interval training is when you take small breaks throughout exercise which are then followed by a cool down period. This type of training will help your muscles to become stronger without being overworked.

The third thing to be aware of is the elliptical tension settings on the elliptical. These tension settings change how hard you are forced to work while exercising.

The harder you set the tension settings and the harder you work, the more calories you will burn. This will also help you develop more muscle strength.

In addition to these ways of easily adjusting how many calories you will burn, there are several other ways you can burn more calories. In addition to interval settings, there are often different levels of incline settings.

The more uphill you decide to set the level to, the more calories you will burn. Some elliptical have program settings that will adjust this level for you during the workout so you can build up to working out at a harder level.

This method of working out has additional benefits. It will not only increase the number of calories you will burn during the workout, but it will increase the number of calories you will burn following your workout.

Most likely you will also want to work out your arms as well as your legs. Elliptical machines offer you the chance to do this with the handles that are attached to the pedals.

The more muscles you are able to work out during a period translates directly to a higher number of calories being burned. Some cheap elliptical machines do not have the handles, but you can invest in a few two to five pound weights and swing your arms while you are striding.

Another way to burn more calories is to workout in short time periods rather than long ones. Studies are beginning to show that more calories are burned during two short time periods rather than one really long one.

Exercise usually speeds up your metabolism. By exercising during various times of the day, the more times your metabolism will work harder and the more calories you will burn.

In addition to the increase in calorie burning, elliptical machines are much easier on your body than the treadmill. As you run on the elliptical, there is a significant decrease in the amount of impact being put on your knees and other joints.

This will save you a significant amount in medical bills further on in your life. There is also less risk to injury because your feet stay on the pedals the whole time.

This makes it much less likely that you will trip and fall. You are also able to balance yourself using the handle bars. The benefits of elliptical training, including the number of calories you can burn, are tremendous.

As you exercise, not only will you become more satisfied with your body shape, but you will experience better moods and attitudes and increased amount of the time.
