Running on a treadmill can be very hard on your joints. Running in general can be an exercise that is extremely difficult on your body because of the high impact nature of the sport.

If you are interested in running of when you know that you will be able to quickly achieve your goals by running, you have to make sure you protect your body. Although you may see some great results, protect your joints.

The more that you know about your body and where you are going to experience pain or what is strong the better off you will be. Taking the time to get to know your body will be of a great benefit in your exercising.

First, you will want to start by going for a run and figuring out which areas of your body are sore or hurt. There are many people that do not even realize what they are doing wrong in their running to cause their soreness.

After you come home from your run you should try to pinpoint where you are feeling pain. The pain that you are feeling should be different than the soreness that your muscles will naturally feel.

The muscles in your body will be very sore if they are out of shape and you go for a run. Stretching after you run is a great way to make sure that you can get the toxins out of your muscles and into your blood stream.

When the toxins get to your blood they will be able to dissipate and your body will be much better of. After stretching you should also make sure that you take the time to ice your muscles.

When you ice your muscles that are sore and you continue to exercise you will soon be able to pinpoint the areas that are causing you pain. After you have found what is causing you pain you will be able to change your run accordingly.

If you are experiencing pain in your knees or your ankles you will first want to make sure that you are finding proper running shoes. The shoes that you are wearing will make a very large difference in your ability to have a pain free run.

There are not a lot of people that understand just hoe important their shoes are. Even if you have found a very good pair of running shoes you want to make sure that you are replacing the shoes as long as they become worn down.

The support that you will need from the shoes will not be provided if they are extremely worn down. Purchasing new shoes may take some time and be an experience you avoid but it will be well worth your health.

After you have found shoes that work well for you, you should make sure that you are running properly. Your legs should be striking the ground with as little force as you can put on your legs.

Your neck and your back muscles should be relaxed as you can possibly make them. When you tighten these muscles you will end up putting this area of your body at risk of being injured.

Your arms should hang loosely at your sides and should swing naturally with your gait. This swinging should not take a lot of effort and you should be able to use this momentum to keep you moving on your run.

If you are trying to get your abdominal muscles strengthened you can try to twist your body from side to side as you are running. When you are running for speed you should not practice this method.

Finally, you have to make sure that you take the time to stretch your body before and after you exercise. When you can take the time to stretch you may be preventing many injuries you would have incurred otherwise.

If you are experiencing pain after your runs make sure you take the time to pinpoint the pain. When you are able to do this you will then be able to meet with a doctor and find out what you can do to better your situation.

Your doctor may have some tips on what you can do before and after your run. If you are still not able to find a way to experience relief you may want to work with a trainer that specializes in sports injuries.

Running on a treadmill or outside can be a great workout if you take the time to make it so.
