Back acne, commonly referred to as “bacne” is found on the upper arms, buttocks, and of course the back. The excessive production of sebum in the sebaceous glands clogs the pores thereby resulting in back acne.

There are innumerable ways of treating back acne as well as for preventing it. Some of the best ways of treating back acne have been discussed in this article. Let us take a look at them:

1. You need to wash your skin well. Make sure you use a soap that comes with anti-bacterial properties. Make sure you apply this soap to your skin twice daily.

2. Getting rid of dead skin cells calls for a gentle exfoliation on a routine basis. As the skin on our back is a bit thicker than on your face, exfoliation is believed to be the best suited option. You can experiment with different kinds of exfoliators like loofahs, washcloths or brushes. However, in case you notice bad reactions try lowering the frequency of exfoliating.

3. You may also use a medicated gel or cream based on salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide to treat back acne. However, make sure to go for only one as using them simultaneously may lead to adverse effects. Start applying the medicated gel or cream twice daily and wash it off after it has dried completely. Gently dry the area afterwards.

4. Make sure to keep your fabrics such as pillow covers, bed sheets, towels and t-shirts bacteria free (as in clean washed) if you want to get rid of back acne. Dirty cloths and fabrics can be a breeding place for bacteria which will worsen your back acne problems. On a side note, try to use hypoallergenic softeners for cleaning your fabrics.

5. If you find that getting rid of back acne is just impossible no matter what remedy you try — consider consulting a dermatologist at your earliest convenience. A dermatologist will lay out for you a plethora of different acne treatment options and will suggest one that goes best for your skin type.

Back acne may take any form such as blackheads, whiteheads or pimples, but at times they also come in the form of deep and painful cysts — and believe you me, treating back acne of this type is the most difficult. That said, if you experience this problem, without delaying any further, make sure to consult a dermatologist. In general, dermatologists prescribe Retin-A or some antibiotics for treating back acne. However, of late, many dermatologists have come up with the idea of prescribing the isotretinoin drug Accutane for treating back acne. Then again, there are quite a few factors that you need to take into consideration prior to opting for this drug. For example, if you are pregnant, then make sure to consult your doctor before you opt for Accutane treatment — this is because the chances of birth defects may be considerably higher.

To wrap up, choose any form of treatment that best suits you, but above all else, do consult a dermatologist for serious back acne problems. Although it is not very difficult to being treating back acne at home, a couple of visits to the dermatologist might be necessary to solve the really tough acne on back problems.
