2 Tips to Help You Stay Free of Acne

Acne is a skin condition, characterized by the incidence of pimples, blemishes and ultimately, ‘scars,’ on the skin. It is a common condition, which a majority of people go through – with varying degrees of severity – in their teenage years. Adults too can develop acne, but this is rarer. Common groups of adults who are likely to develop acne include expectant mothers and people going through major stresses. In all cases, there seems to be a very strong connection between acne and sex hormones; as it tends to occur in people going through major hormonal fluctuations – like teenagers and expectant mothers.

In as much as acne is caused by hormonal fluctuations, it is not something you can do much about, really. Attempts to tamper with the hormones tend to backfire. In any case, it is not in your best interests to interfere with your hormones.

What you can control

But thankfully, there are other factors that are linked to acne over which you have some control. For one, acne is linked with diet: so that people who fall victim to it tend to have very low levels of certain nutrients in their blood, the nutrients in question being vitamin A and E. One variety of acne, specifically the most distressing type that is characterized by blackheads and whiteheads on the skin is also associated with the use of certain skin care products. The skin care products in question are those that cause the blockage of the pores in the skin; for it is the blockage of those pores, and the subsequent trapping of hair follicles under the skin that ultimately leads to this variety of acne. Thankfully, these two factors (skin care products and lack of vitamins A and E), unlike the hormonal factors, are things that you have control over.

So it is from here that the 2 tips for staying acne free stem.

1) The first of these is to ensure a good intake of vitamins A and E, whose lack has been associated with higher incidence of acne. Surprisingly, there are so many – and easily found – foods that are rich in these two vitamins that having enough of them (or a lack of them) boils down to whether you really care or not.

Vitamin E, also known as tocopherol is to be found in a huge variety of foods: from avocado to spinach (and other greens), nuts, wholegrain cereals, milk and the germ of wheat (which can be obtained in ‘real’ brown bread).

Vitamin A, on the other hand, is to be found from things like green vegetables, liver, carrots, eggs and sweet potato.

Notably, ensuring good intake of these two nutrients would also protect you from a whole host of other conditions, in addition to acne.

2) The second tip to help you stay free of acne is to avoid the skin care products that are known to clog the skin. Worth noting is that these skin care products that clog the skin tend to cause a whole host of other problems, besides acne. So it is in your best interest to subject every skin care product to some research, to see whether it is one that is known to cause skin clogging. This is something you can only find from external sources, for it is something the makers of the skin care products will never openly admit.
