Childhood obesity is slowly becoming a major concern, as hundreds of thousands of kids aging from 9 to 13 are overweight or obese. Obesity or being overweight causes its own fair share of problems to kids, from health complications to social and emotional issues. Here are some effective weight loss for kids tips that you can follow to effectively help your child eat healthy, live healthy and lose weight.

1. Adjust Eating Habits
The first essential step needed for a child to lose weight is to adjust his or her eating habits. Remove fast food, sweet juices, carbonated drinks and high sugar foods from their meals and replace them with healthier alternatives. Go for fruits, vegetables, whole wheat and other whole grain products and zero fat substitutes.

2. Exercise
Have your kids get up and move around Exercise is good for kids weight loss, but don’t force yourself to do laps around the house. There are fun exercises and activities that he can do on a daily basis. Summer Camps like Camp Pocono Trails offer a lot of activities and exercises for children.

3. Look For Fun Activities
Your child may want to involve himself in fun activities or sports such as swimming, soccer, football, kayaking and the like. If that’s the case, then let him go and join a class or team. The more he practices and moves around, the better.

4. Unplug The Television
This includes the computer, too. Video games and television watching play a role in the increased number of overweight children, so unplug the television, usher your child outside and let him play with friends.

5. Stop Nagging
It’s okay to be concerned as a parent, but constantly nagging about your child’s weight will only worsen things and make your child feel bad about himself. Instead of nagging, show your support.

6. No Skipping of Meals
Encourage your kids not to skip meals. Skipping breakfast or lunch only encourages them to snack more in between meals and eat more during the next meal. If they’re often running late for class, prepare quick and easy to make healthy breakfasts in anticipation for that.

7. Motivate
Kids (even teens) love rewards, so motivate your child by giving him or her a reward once he does a certain task. Make sure that the reward isn’t candy or chocolate, though.

8. Stop Comparing If you think comparing your child with others is going to motivate him, then you’re making a big mistake. Weight loss for kids differs greatly, as some kids lose weight faster than others. Comparing your child with other children will only make him feel bad about himself.

9. Practice What You Preach
Stop over emphasizing about healthy eating; just go about and do it. It would be unwise of you to lecture your child about eating healthy, only to see you munching on pizza in front of the television at dinnertime.

10. Involve Your Kids
You might also want to involve your kids in summer weight loss camps like Camp Pocono Trails. Summer weight loss camps are perfect venue for your child to learn healthy habits which, in conjuction with the habits he learns at home, will help pave the way for him to become a healthier individual in the future.
